Aston Villa have been linked with a summer move for Swansea City centre-back Mike van der Hoorn.

It was reported by The Sun back in February that Aston Villa plan to make a summer move for Mike van der Hoorn having been told that he would cost £10 million during the January transfer window.
Van der Hoorn is currently set to be out of contract at Swansea in the summer, but Wales Online report that the Swans plan to trigger a one-year extension in the Dutchman’s deal to ensure that he does not leave for nothing.
Nevertheless, following his latest performance for Graham Potter’s side, Villa must make sure that they keep the 26-year-old near the top of their wishlist.
Van der Hoorn was outstanding in the 3-0 win against Brentford at the Liberty Stadium. The win was comfortable, but the centre-back must take a lot of credit for that as he ensured that the Bees had little to be positive about going forward.

The Villans are on a remarkable run having won their last five games to move right back into play-off contention in the Championship. And they have conceded just two goals in that run.
But there are still some defensive issues to address. Dean Smith does not have a lot of depth at the back, and those problems could intensify further if they do not manage to keep Tyrone Mings beyond the end of the season when his loan spell ends.

Even if they manage to keep Mings and Swansea trigger the one-year option, signing van der Hoorn could be a very smart move as he heads into what could be the best years of his career.
His latest display highlights exactly why Villa must ensure that they make a fresh move when the window reopens after having a look in January.
