Hull City’s caretaker boss Mike Phelan says he has been offered the managerial job full-time and adds he will now sit down with his family in order to mull it over, the BBC report.

The Tigers were seemingly in turmoil during the summer as Steve Bruce walked out on the Championship playoff winners only weeks ahead of the Premier League opener.

Hull were short on numbers due to injuries, and nobody knew whether the squad would be improved during the transfer window amid boardroom issues and ongoings behind the scenes.

Many felt as a result the Yorkshire club were destined for an immediate return to the second tier, yet under caretaker boss Phelan’s guidance Hull have picked up seven points in their opening five matches.

With the players in support of Phelan and supporters on board too, the former Manchester United assistant manager says he has finally been offered the job full-time after plenty of speculation.

“My position is I have been offered the job. It came 48 hours ago when we were in preparation for this game. I have time now to sit down with family, have a chat and take it forward,” he told the BBC.

Hull started the season with back-to-back wins over Leicester City and Swanea City, yet Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at home to Arsenal means they have now picked up one point from their last three.

While there is evidently no need to panic, the Tigers’ defeat to the Gunners was a reminder of how tough the Premier League can be and the challenge ahead as the club look to survive come the end of the season.
