Newcastle United have been linked with West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon.

Rondon has been touted as a potential strike target for Newcastle, as Rafael Benitez looks to improve his attacking options.
West Brom are believed to be wanting £16.5 million for the forward, but Ashley has concerns over sanctioning the deal.

Ashley is hardly a popular figure at Newcastle, but his decision not to sanction a deal for Rondon could be smart.
Rondon is now 28, and his goalscoring record at West Brom, hardly suggests he would kick Newcastle on to the next level.
Although the Venezuelan is a tireless worker and he can be an aerial threat, his finishing often is unreliable.

Newcastle already have enough forwards who are shaky in front of goal, and need a more clinical finisher if they really are to push on next term.
And although Ashley’s reluctance to sign off deals can often frustrate Newcastle supporters, he seems to have made the right call with Rondon.
