Newcastle United are said to have an interest in signing Albert Adomah from Aston Villa.

However, for Ashely, the deal appears to make very little sense as Adomah would not improve Newcastle’s squad.
Adomah is only said to be a back-up choice for Newcastle, if they fail to sign Andros Townsend, but the duo are not in the same league.

The Magpies are thought to be selling Matt Ritchie this summer, but if they offloaded him to bring in Adomah, then the transfer would make very little sense.
Ashley has drawn criticism for not backing Benitez enough, but he could be forgiven for questioning the logic of bringing in Adomah.
The winger was not even a consistent threat at Championship level before last season, and Adomah’s best form came in the first half of the campaign.

Adomah scored just once in his last 15 league appearances for Villa last term.
And if Newcastle think that the Ghanian is the man to really push them on to the next level, Ashley could be forgiven for asking questions over bringing the Ghanian in.
