The Northern Echo claim that a bid of £30 million for Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles could persuade Mike Ashley to sell the centre-back.

Everton have been linked with the Newcastle man in recent times, after his impressive season.

The Toffees are said to be prepared to offer Newcastle a sizeable fee for the 24-year-old, who is a key part of the Magpies’ plans.

Rafael Benitez is thought to be keen to keep hold of Lascelles, but the Northern Echo suggest that a £30 million bid could meet Ashley’s valuation and take the decision out of Benitez’s hands.

Should Ashley sell?

If Ashley does decide to sell Lascelles to consequence of that decision could be huge for Newcastle.

Benitez is known to be a huge fan of the centre-back, and losing him would hardly help matters over keeping the Spaniard at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle fans would also be left outraged, if Lascelles was let go.

There is a feeling among Magpies fans that the former Nottingham Forest man is worth more than £30 million, and he remains a very popular figure at St. James’ Park.

Ashley, therefore, would be wise to think twice about the sale of Lascelles, as letting him for £30 million will not go down well on Tyneside.
