Mikael Lustig is in the final few months of his existing Celtic contract.
Mikael Lustig has told Celtic View that he has discussed his future at Parkhead with interim boss Neil Lennon.
The 32-year-old defender is out of contract at Celtic this summer and it remains to be seen if he will be staying in Glasgow.
Former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers signed two right-backs in January – Jeremy Toljan and Manny Perez – in transfers which do little to suggest that the Northern Irishman had long-term plans for the Sweden international.
But Lennon has replaced Rodgers as manager for now, and the 47-year-old revealed to The Record last week that he was already speaking with Head of Recruitment Lee Congerton about the club’s transfer policy this summer.
Lustig, signed by Lennon for the Bhoys in 2012, told Celtic View: “Neil and I talked together shortly after he returned.
“We discussed a little bit about my situation and about what might happen next year. We’re both in a situation where we don’t know what the future holds come the summer.
“You naturally want to know what the future holds but in football that’s not always the case and I’m used to that. I’ve been here for a long time and I’ve loved every second of my time here.”
It sounds like Lustig – who earns £24,000 per week at Celtic [The Daily Star] – might be hoping to sign an extension.
His form has dipped over the past 18 months or so, but Lustig, an unused substitute in the draw with Aberdeen last weekend, remains a big player for the Scottish giants and time will tell whether he stays.
