Former Leeds United striker Mikael Forssell commented as Aapo Halme made his senior debut for the Whites.
Mikael Forssell sent a good luck message to Aapo Halme during Leeds’ win over Bristol City on Saturday, while he also responded to a Whites fans’ tweet regarding the defender’s height.
Halme has endured a difficult time since heading to Elland Road at the start of the year. The 20-year-old has spent much of his spell injured and not managed to make too many appearances for the under-23 side.
However, Marcelo Bielsa promoted the centre-back to the first-team for the clash with the Robins with Pontus Jansson joining Gaetano Berardi and Luke Ayling on the sidelines.
And while Halme did not manage to convince all of the supporters with his display, he did perform extremely well in difficult circumstances. Leeds kept a clean sheet and took the three points.
During the game, Forssell – who spent a season with Leeds towards the end of his career and went on to work alongside Halme at HJK – expressed his delight for the youngster.
And when a Leeds fan responded with a comment about the defender’s 6ft 5ins stature, the retired striker issued a response that should encourage the Elland Road faithful.

With a quick turnaround to Tuesday’s game against Reading, it would seem that Halme has a decent chance of quickly making his second senior appearance for the side.
Perhaps the unconvinced supporters may see then why Forssell seems to have high hopes for the defender.
