Watford’s Troy Deeney celebrates scoring their first goal
Yesterday saw Watford striker Troy Deeney make a little piece of Hornets history as he scored his 100th goal for the club. He smashed home a penalty for Watford against Crystal Palace yesterday to join Luther Blissett, Tommy Barnett, Ross Jenkins and Cliff Holton in the 100 club at Watford.
It was a momentous occasion for Deeney, who has been stuck on 99 since he found the back of the net in a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth at the start of October.
Watford’s Miguel Layun (R) celebrates scoring their first goal with Jose Jurado
It was a great occasion for Watford fans and Deeney was certainly happy to have achieved the feat, posting this Tweet after the game:
He also got some congratulations from a former Watford player.
Mexican international Miguel Layun is now playing his football for Portuguese giants Porto but was previously a top talent at Vicarage Road. He helped the Hornets to Premier League promotion in 2014-15 but did not stick around long in the Premier League – as he jumped at the chance to join Porto.
But he has not forgotten the club, sending this tweet yesterday:
Watford drew the game but still look like steering clear of any relegation trouble this season.
Hopefully Deeney can now start finding the net regularly again to ensure a comfortable end to the season.
