Miguel Almiron still hasn’t scored a goal in the Premier League for Newcastle United – and Steve Bruce should be worried about his display against Japan.

Miguel Almiron might have been hoping that a break from the pressures of club football could help him rediscover his golden touch.
The critics are starting to round on Newcastle United’s £20 million man after a sluggish start to life under Steve Bruce (The Telegraph). Almiron is yet to produce either a goal or an assist in 14 Premier League games under Bruce and Rafa Benitez – and patience in some quarters is starting to wear a little thin.
And it’s not just Almiron’s inability to finish chances that have put him in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, it’s his tendency to disappear completely from view and leave Newcastle without even a hint of cutting edge or speed.

And it seems that the former Atlanta United talisman isn’t finding things any easier in the red and white stripes of Paraguay.
Almiron started in his favoured number 10 role as Paraguay took on Japan during a friendly clash on Thursday afternoon but, not for the first time this season, his performance left a lot to be desired.

The South American’s went down 2-0 thanks to early goals from Yuya Osako and Takumi Minamoto with Almiron failing to muster anything like a response.
“Miguel Almirón disappeared for almost the entire game,” complained Paraguayan publication Digital Misiones with the Newcastle attacker outshone by the impressive Caykur Rizespor forward Braian Samudio.
