Newcastle United snapped up Miguel Almiron last week.

Newcastle United playmaker Miguel Almiron has told El Regate 1120AM, as translated by The Chronicle, that he has been told Magpies fans are ‘very passionate’.

Rafael Benitez was desperate for January additions, and whilst they took a while to arrive, he did get two new signings on deadline day last Thursday.

Left back Antonio Barreca joined on loan from Monaco, before Benitez finally got the man he wanted in playmaker Almiron.

Newcastle smashed their club-record transfer fee to sign Almiron from Atlanta United, having hit 13 goals and 13 assists last season, helping Atlanta United to the MLS Cup.

The Paraguayan, 24, will bring pace, dynamism and a superb left foot to Newcastle’s attacking play, and hopefully Newcastle well away from the relegation zone.

Almiron is awaiting international clearance to make his debut, so he could feature in next Monday’s game against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

After completing his move, Almiron has spoken about signing for the Magpies, and revealed what he has been told about Newcastle’s fans.

Almiron suggested that Newcastle fans have been described to him as ‘very passionate’, adding that the fans are not only happy with his own arrival but the rest of the team at Benitez’s disposal now.

“I’ve been told that the Newcastle fans are very passionate and I think the people are not only happy that I’m here, but they’re happy with the team that they have,” said Almiron. “Newcastle is a historic club that is on the way up and also have wonderful players,” he added.
