The talented Paraguay international became Newcastle United’s record signing last month.
Newcastle new-boy Miguel Almiron sat down for an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, and shared his reaction upon hearing of the Toon’s interest in obtaining his signature.
The Magpies paid MLS side Atlanta United around £20 million, according to the Sun, to bring the Paraguayan to St James’ Park, and the Toon army cannot wait to see their new hero in action.
Almiron could in fact make his debut for Newcastle tonight away at Wolverhampton Wanderers, and with the Magpies currently sitting in 17th spot, they desperately need the 24-year-old to hit the ground running.
And the attacking midfielder told Sky Sports how excited he was when he first heard of Newcastle’s interest in signing him way back in November:
“It was towards the end of November, that’s when I first found out about it. I was told about the interest from Newcastle. It was exciting but you try to take it lightly and put it out of your mind to stop yourself from getting anxious and driving yourself crazy about what might happen. If it comes off, fantastic; if it doesn’t, just be patient.”
Newcastle fans must be patent with Almiron. It is always hard for players coming in from a foreign league to adapt to the ferociously paced nature of the Premier League.
If given time, the former Atlanta United ace could go on to become a real star on Tyneside, but quite how long it will take him to settle, remains to be seen.
