Miguel Almiron is in no shape to have an instant impact at Newcastle United.
Miguel Almiron is due to officially start his Newcastle United career tomorrow.
According to The Chronicle, Almiron, a club-record £20 million signing last month [The Sun], will begin training with the Magpies on Wednesday morning after picking up his work permit on Monday.
Considering his talent and price-tag, there is already big pressure on the Paraguay international, but there’s some things that Newcastle fans need to realise.
Firstly, he has never played English football before. His profile is built on the back of excelling in Major League Soccer with Atlanta and although he is certainly capable of dazzling in the Premier League, the physicality and intensity might represent a bit of a culture shock at first.
And secondly, the 24-year-old can’t be fully fit.
Almiron hasn’t played a competitive, senior game since Atlanta won the MLS Cup nearly two months ago, and therefore he simply won’t be ready to have an instant impact for Newcastle.
Rafael Benitez’s side don’t have a game until Wolves on Monday, but even that might come too soon for the South American attacker who, really, should be focusing on Huddersfield Town in 18 days as far as debuts go.
It’s a long wait, but the sharper he is, the better he will be.
