Arsenal fans on Twitter have been raving over Matt Smith after the Gunners loanee netted a late equaliser to salvage a point for Swindon on Saturday afternoon.

Gunners fans may have had worries about Smith’s loan spell after Swindon lost manager Richie Wellens to Salford City earlier this month, but it seems as though Smith may be a star of the John Sheridan era, starring in the new manager’s first game at the club.

Not only did the 20-year-old score the late equaliser, he assisted another of the Robins’ goals as they played out a dramatic 3-3 draw with Shrewsbury.

Of course, Smith’s late equalised caught the eye of the Arsenal fanbase, and it’s fair to say they were getting carried away.

One fan dubbed the midfielder ‘the blonde Xavi’, while another said that he may turn out to be the player that the fanbase have long expected Emile Smith-Rowe to become.

It’s certainly brilliant to see the young Arsenal loanee flourishing, especially in his first game under a new manager, and fans were definitely happy with the impact he had against Shrewsbury.

Gunners supporters may want to keep an eye on the loan star going forward, as if he keeps this up, he may soon catch the eye of Mikel Arteta.
