Garth Crooks has written on BBC Sport that Diogo Jota might be the reason why Liverpool win the Premier League title this season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and West Bromwich Albion forward, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport, was impressed by the performance of Jota during Liverpool’s win against Leicester City at the weekend.

The Portugal international winger scored yet again, as the Reds got the better of the Foxes 3-0 at Anfield in the Premier League game.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are now level on points with leaders Tottenham in second place in the league table.

Jota joined Liverpool from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020.

Crooks wrote on BBC Sport: “The impact Jota is having on Liverpool since his arrival on Merseyside has been quite extraordinary. It normally takes a player anything up to three months to settle into a new team, particularly if that arrival is after the season has started.

“Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish had similar impacts when they arrived at Anfield in the 1970s but there are not many like that. Portugal striker Jota has not only hit the ground running, he’s setting records. Four goals in four consecutive games at Anfield gives you some indication of his influence.

“Leicester, who have been tipped as one of the teams that might compete with Liverpool for the title, looked ordinary at best and even out of their depth on occasions.

“The main reason was due to their inability to handle Jota, who looked electric. Jota’s arrival at Anfield just might be the reason they retain the title.”

Big player for Liverpool

According to WhoScored, Jota has scored four goals in seven Premier League matches and has scored four goals in three Champions League games for Liverpool so far this season.

The 23-year-old has given manager Klopp another valuable option in attack and has made the Liverpool front-line even better.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are world-class players, and Jota seems to be heading in that direction.
