Arsenal Women’s superstar Vivianne Miedema has issued an injury update on social media that confirmed the Netherlands international has ruptured her ACL.
Taking to Twitter, the 26-year-old attacker revealed that she will miss the remainder of the season after Miedema was stretchered off in Arsenal’s UEFA Women’s Champions League clash against Olympique Lyonnais, with the striker joining England star Beth Mead on the injury table with a ruptured ACL.
Arsenal have been plagued with injury issues all season that has seen Lioness captain Leah Williamson miss the majority of the season and summer signing Rafaelle Souza miss a good number of games due to being out on the treatment table.
Yet this latest injury update from Miedema, along with Mead’s ACL setback earlier this month, is the biggest blow Arsenal have and likely will suffer all season, with the Dutch superstar regarded by many fans and pundits as one of the best attackers in the women’s game and one of the most threatening forwards in the Women’s Super League.
Holland’s all-time international goalscorer across both the men and women squads, Miedema is also the leading scorer in the history of the Women’s Super League. And with the striker now out for the remainder of the season, Arsenal’s hopes for silverware and Champions League qualification could now be in shatters.
Miedema injury update could derail Arsenal’s entire season

Arsenal were already up against the wall this season with Chelsea on pace to win yet another Women’s Super League title and the sheer quality of European clubs in the Champions League likely to leave Jonas Eidevall’s side in the dust, yet this injury update for Miedema could be the nail in the coffin.
After all, Arsenal’s forward options are bare with both Miedema and Mead out in the injury room, and for Eidevall, it will take a titanic effort in 2023 to salvage something for the Gunners in the second half of the season.
