Nottingham Forest are closing in on Domen Crnigoj with the Venezia midfielder expected to become a Premier League player sooner rather than later, as reported by Tuttosport.
With five key players departing and with fans’ favourite Brice Samba potentially set to follow in their footsteps, it’s been a difficult start to the summer for Steve Cooper, Dane Murphy and co.
Things are picking up now, however, with Taiwo Awoniyi arriving from Union Berlin in a £17.5 million club-record deal. Dean Henderson should also arrive on loan from Manchester United.
Forest are reportedly in pole position to land the tricky Joe Aribo from Rangers too, with Ajax’s Argentina left-back Nicolas Tagliafico another potentially eye-catching addition.
Nottingham Forest in Domen Crnigoj talks
Crnigoj won’t hot quite so many headlines. The 26-year-old Slovenia international is hardly a household name, after all, on the banks of the River Trent or anywhere else in Britain for that matter. But he was one of the few bright sparks in a dark season for Venezia, and looks all-but certain to depart after The Winged Ones lost the power of flight and plummeted straight back into the depths of Serie B.

Tuttomercatoweb reported on Wednesday that Nottingham Forest had opened talks with Crnigoj. The two-time European champions are allegedly ‘confident’ that a deal can be agreed.
And, according to Tuttosport, the former Lugano ace is now ‘about to go to the Premier League’. Negotiations remain active. And at least the 6ft 2ins enforcer will earn Venezia a decent profit. He moved to Italy from Switzerland on a free a couple of years ago after all.
Crnigoj, a versatile central midfielder who can also play wide on the right, could be tasked with replacing James Garner following his return to Manchester United. He scored three times in Serie A last term, a respectable tally for a footballer plying his trade for a club stuck at the bottom of the table.
