Midfielder suggests Burnley move would be a ‘dream’ after Kompany’s £4.5m bid

Kristian Malt Arnstad insists that his ‘dream’ is to secure a move to the Premier League after Burnley failed with a £4.5 million bid to reunite Vincent Kompany with the Anderlecht starlet. 

Speaking to VG in his native Norway during the September international break, the 20-year-old described himself as an ‘aggressive’, hard-running midfield player. One who can be as effective out of possession as he is with the ball at his feet. 

Considering what Vincent Kompany tends to demand from his midfielders – Josh Cullen and Josh Brownhill the prime examples – it is easy to see how Arnstad could fit in at Turf Moor; the Burnley target having already proven himself capable of thriving under the former Manchester City captain at his current employers. 

Kompany hailed Arnstad’s maturity and his drive for self-improvement during their time together at Anderlecht. A proposed reunion did not come to fruition in the final week of the summer window, however; Burnley failing with three bids, including one in the region of £4.5 million.

“They didn’t agree (on a fee). But, of course, it’s cool to have some interest,” the Norway U21 international smiles.

“I had (Kompany) for the first two years he was in Anderlecht. We have a good relationship, and you learn a lot from having him. He is an absolutely fantastic coach. You notice that he has been under Pep (Guardiola) and other coaches for a long time as well.

“He has absorbed a lot there that he tries to teach the rest of us. He has a lot of respect among everyone around him. You just have to take in what you can.” 

‘It is a dream’

It remains to be seen whether Burnley will pick up where they left off in pursuit of Arnstad come January. The Oslo-born youngster is certainly not ruling out a move that would see him become the latest Jupiler League export to touch down at Turf Moor. 

“Of course, it’s cool. It is a dream to play in the Premier League one day,” Arnstad adds. “Now, there was no agreement, so I just try to focus on where I am now.”
