Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is poised to leave the club for Turkish side Caykur Rizespor.

Jonjo Shelvey missed out on a move to Leeds United and could now join Caykur Rizespor in Turkey.

That is according to The Telegraph, who report that Shelvey is now ‘close’ to completing his move to Turkey.

It’s stated that Shelvey is allegedly set to fly out to Turkey in order to put the finishing touches to his move.

Shelvey will be joining Caykur Rizespor on loan until the end of the season having been made available by Forest.

Caykur Rizespor won promotion to Turkey’s top flight last season and will now call upon Shelvey to help them secure their Super Lig status.

Leeds United missed out on Jonjo Shelvey

The report adds that Shelvey did actually have offers to stay in England before the transfer deadline earlier this month.

Burnley, Sheffield United and Leeds United are all thought to have registered their interest in signing Shelvey.

The 31-year-old could have stayed in the Premier League or even dropped into the Championship.

For whatever reason, it just wasn’t to be as Leeds ended up signing Ilia Gruev from Werder Bremen instead.

Leeds went down the route of a Bundesliga import rather than somebody with vast Premier League experience.

Shelvey move has been a disaster for Nottingham Forest

Forest only signed Shelvey in January of this year, handing him a deal worth around £70,000-a-week as he left Newcastle United.

The idea was for Shelvey to get back to playing regularly again having struggled to make an impact in the first half of last season.

Shelvey only played eight times for Forest though and has been completely frozen out under boss Steve Cooper.

Forest have made so many signings over the last year or so, that some of them were bound to miss the mark.

Shelvey is certainly one of them and they won’t care whether he prefers Leeds, Caykur Rizespor or anyone else – they will just want him moved on.
