MLS sensation Brenden Aaronson has admitted that he is trying to ‘block out’ speculation linking him with a summer move to Celtic, speaking to The Best Soccer Show.
Considering that the Philadelphia Union starlet is known across the pond as America’s answer to Kai Havertz, you won’t need us to tell you what sort of footballer we are looking at here.
As he demonstrated during a 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City in July, slaloming past a pair of bamboozled defenders before carving apart the opposition backline like a plump Thanksgiving goose, this is a footballer who can produce something out of absolutely nothing.
And, according to MLS Soccer, Aaronson’s dazzling potential has already caught the eye of Celtic and a number of Bundesliga sides.
Not that a young man with his head screwed on tight is letting the speculation distract him from the task at hand.
“I think in American soccer there should be a lot of hype. There’s a lot of good soccer players, and everybody’s excited,” says arguably the most talented of a new generation.
“I think that’s just normal. But for me I try to block that kind of stuff out.”
If Olivier Ntcham cannot buy a start in Celtic’s midfield, however, this should highlight the size of the task facing 19-year-old Aaronson if he swaps Philadelphia for Parkhead during the summer transfer window.
In Tom Rogic, Ryan Christie and Ntcham himself, three of the most talented attacking midfielders in Scotland are already vying for a place in Neil Lennon’s engine room.
But if Aaronson proves to be half as talented as Havertz, he will make the number ten spot his own while barely breaking out of that typically languid style.
