The Middlesbrough captain has been in fine form this season, and has been gaining admirers at both Chelsea and Manchester City.
Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson applauds fans
Leading them to promotion last season, Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson has been an integral part of Aitor Karanka’s success over the last few years.
Nephew to current Middlesbrough Chairman, Steve Gibson, the central defender has Middlesbrough at his heart, and a raw ability that could well earn him a call-up to the England squad at some point.
However, with such good performances comes attention, the Daily Star are now reporting that both Chelsea and Manchester City are interested in bringing in the Boro defender.
As Middlesbrough face a battle to stay in the Premier League, with relegation now looking a real possibility, the club could well be forced to sell their star man at the back, as he no doubt seeks a future at the highest level, both domestically and internationally.

So which club would best suit Gibson? Manchester City, who recently splashed the cash on Everton defender John Stones, aren’t strapped for defensive options, as they await the return of injured captain Vincent Kompany.
Chelsea, perhaps, would be the option that makes more sense. Playing with three central defenders at the back in their 3-4-3 formation, Gibson is more likely to get gametime there, despite having to compete for one of the three spots with David Luiz, Kurt Zouma, Gary Cahill, Cesar Azpilicueta and John Terry.

Chelsea may also be the club that simply needs Gibson more. Captain John Terry, who has been at the club since 1998, is finding game time more and more limited now, and could well be drawing towards the end of his Chelsea career.
Could Ben Gibson be the perfect replacement? As well as being a big, strong and mobile defender, Ben Gibson has grown up and become a natural leader at Middlesbrough. Though John Terry’s boots are big ones to fill, Ben Gibson looks like the right model of player to try and fill them.
Would Chelsea fans be happy with the signing of Ben Gibson? Do Boro fans think they can keep hold of him? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
