Middlesbrough have offered a club record fee for the Nottingham Forest man, though contrary to some reports, nothing is signed and sealed.

Nottingham Forest face the prospect of losing star man Britt Assombalonga to Championship rivals Middlesbrough after a £14m bid was lodged by the recently relegated Premier League side, as reported by Gazette Live, but the deal is far from complete.

A report in the Irish Sun claimed that Boro had beaten Watford and Burnley to Assombalonga’s signature, but for now this doesn’t appear to be the case and there is still every possibility that the striker – who rifled in 14 goals in 33 games last season – won’t sign for Boro.

Gazette Live claim that Boro have offered Forest an eight figure fee up front in cash – so £10m+ – with the remainder of the £14m coming in add-ons that could be based on promotion, goals scored by Assombalonga or appearances made.

It appears that while the Irish Sun may have jumped the gun in regards to Forest accepting an offer, what does seem to be true is that Boro have offered Assombalonga a whopping £60k a week, which would see the 24-year-old make £3.12m a year before tax.

However, despite the finances Boro are prepared to offer, Gazette Live claim that Assombalonga’s advisers are suggesting he sits tight for a bit as Watford and Burnley may re-emerge with a better offer, with the 24-year-old’s preference being to move upwards to the Premier League – not sideways in the Championship.

While Garry Monk may not ultimately get his man, it certainly seems as if Mark Warburton may have to find a replacement striker for Assombalonga – though at least the Forest boss has a lot of time to go before the season starts.
