The Poland Under-21 team coach claims Bielik caught the eye of a Middlesbrough representative on Sunday.

Middlesbrough won’t be signing Krystian Bielik this season, despite claims the Arsenal youngster impressed a Boro scout this week.

According to Czesław Michniewicz, the coach of Poland’s Under-21 side, Bielik’s performance for Arsenal’s U23s against Manchester City on Sunday was ‘very highly rated’ by the Middlesborugh representative present.

Michniewicz, who is known as ‘the Polish Jose Mourinho’, posted the following on Twitter a day later:

But Bielik has since signed for Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan.

Middlesbrough are said to have seen a deal to sign Muhamed Besic collapse on deadline day, which would have made plausible any Boro interest in Bielik, who like the Everton man can play in central defence and central midfield.

Whether or not the Teessiders were ever in for the 20-year-old remains to be seen, however.

Bielik moved to Arsenal in early 2015 but has only played twice since then, while loan spells at Birmingham City and Walsall proved somewhat unremarkable – although the latter period was disrupted by injury.

Unlike Premier League clubs, Middlesbrough can still make temporary signings – including those with an agreement to be made permanent in January – up to and including August 31st.
