Middlesbrough will be keen to boost their attacking options this summer, as they bid for an immediate return to the Premier League. A move for former player and current Bristol City forward Lee Tomlin should be considered.

As reported by the Bristol Post, Tomlin dropped a huge hint that his future lies away from Ashton Gate. He passed on his thanks to Robins supporters on Instagram, suggesting he may have played his last game for the club.

The 28-year-old has scored 13 goals and notched up eight assists in 60 appearances since moving to Ashton Gate in January 2016.

It is likely that Tomlin would not be short of potential suitors if he was available for transfer and Middlesbrough should look at the possibility of bringing him back to the Riverside Stadium.

Tomlin, who is predominantly a secondary striker but is capable of playing in any forward role, enjoyed one of the best spells of his career at Middlesbrough. His impressive performances across two seasons earned him a move to Premier League side Bournemouth.

He quickly established himself as a key figure for Boro and in his 64 appearances, he scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists as he led his side to the Championship play-off final in the 2014/15 season.

A move back to Teesside may reignite his career after spending last season in the midst of a relegation battle with City. Middlesbrough will be looking to add more goals to their game, something that was severely lacking in last season’s relegation campaign.

Tomlin has the ability to provide a steady stream of goals to any side at Championship level and would be a shrewd piece of business if Middlesbrough were to secure his signature.
