Middlesbrough are poised to snap up defender Rav van den Berg as links to Liverpool will lead to nothing.

PEC Zwolle defender Rav van den Berg is set for a move to Middlesbrough despite links to Liverpool.

That is according to The Northern Echo, who report that Boro have now agreed a deal to sign Van den Berg.

It’s stated that Van den Berg will soon be heading to Teesside for a medical and to finalise personal terms.

It’s unclear just how much Boro will be paying for Van den Berg but they have been accelerating talks in the hope of securing a deal.

Major clubs around Europe wanted to sign Van den Berg with Roma, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan all mentioned.

Boro have promised first-team opportunities though and that is seemingly tempting to the 18-year-old.

Primarily a centre back, Van den Berg has also played as a right back – just like his brother Sepp, currently with Liverpool.

Rav van den Berg won’t be joining his brother at Liverpool

The Daily Mail noted in June that Liverpool were interested in signing Van den Berg.

The Reds raided PEC Zwolle to sign Sepp van den Berg – Rav’s brother – back in 2019.

Sepp has only managed four first-team appearances for Liverpool but did spend 18 successful months on loan at Preston North End.

The 21-year-old is back with Liverpool this summer after a loan spell with Schalke, and reuniting with brother Rav would have been an emotional moment.

Instead, Rav looks set to test himself in the Championship and then ascend to the Premier League, taking a different route to his older brother.

Maybe Liverpool will keep tabs on the younger Van den Berg in the coming years as he seeks to test himself in English football.
