Middlesbrough’s Adam Clayton has impressed in the Championship so far this season.
Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton has been excellent in his central anchor role on Teesside this term and the 29-year-old has once again been a regular fixture in Tony Pulis’ side.
The Boro brought in several central midfielders this summer, including Paddy McNair from Sunderland, George Saville from Millwall and the returning Muhamed Besic from Everton.
And in an interview with Teesside Live, Clayton admits no one is safe from being dropped with the excellent strength in depth Middlesbrough have in their squad this term.
When speaking about his place in Boro’s side, Clayton said: “You see people come into the club who can play in your position, good players who you know can go into the team and play well and so there is always competition.
“As a player at this club you always feel that pressure that competition brings . Every player feels it. You have to live with that all the time, especially at a club like this where there is so much competition for every place. No one is safe from that.”
Clayton was recently taken off in the Boro’s first loss of the 2018/19 campaign at Carrow Road against Norwich City and Pulis will have had one eye on their next important fixture.
The Teesside team return to home soil to face Bolton Wanderers in an important game for Middlesbrough to recapture their good early-season form.
