Middlesbrough goalkeeping legend Jim Platt has said that Victor Valdes needs time to settle following criticism of the Spaniard.
Middlesbrough’s Victor Valdes looks dejected
Middlesbrough have not exactly made the most startling of starts to the Premier League season, as just one win in their opening seven league games has left them down in 16th.
Despite this, fans are still hopeful that they can turn things round given the sheer quality that their side possesses. One of those top quality players is Victor Valdes and as reported by Gazette Live, Boro goalkeeping icon Jim Platt has defended the Spaniard after some recent criticism.
Despite his many accomplishments over the years Valdes has so far failed to convince the Teessiders that he is worthy of being their number one, and the 34-year-old has even been involved in an altercation with teammate Adam Clayton.
“It’s still early days for Valdes,” said former Northern Ireland international Platt.

“I think he has been unfairly criticised – he seems to have been blamed for pretty much every goal that has gone in this season.
“He would probably say himself that he could have been better positioned for Shaqiri’s free-kick in the opening day draw against Stoke.
“But there was nothing he could do for Lukaku’s goal for instance when he got the faintest of touches on the ball at Everton.”

Valdes moved to the Riverside following a poor tenure at Manchester United in the hope that he could get his career back on track.
Boro’s next game following the international break will come against Watford, as manager Aitor Karanka desperately attempts to reignite their season.
