The Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, is said to want his former teammate at Ibrox next season.

Stewart Downing is being tipped for a reunion with his former teammate Steven Gerrard at Rangers (Teesside Gazette).
The Rangers manager is said to have identified Downing as a potential summer recruit at Ibrox.
The Middlesbrough winger is out of contract this summer and will be available for free as things stand.
Gerrard and Downing played together for both England and Liverpool, with the latter even claiming it was the Anfield legend who convinced him to join the Reds.
But what are those of a Middlesbrough persuasion saying about Downing’s Rangers links?
Some would certainly welcome the 34-year-old’s exit, however, others aren’t so keen…
Middlesbrough are said to have paid £6 million to bring Downing back to his boyhood club from West Ham United four years ago.
He has found opportunities hard to come by in recent months, however, with Boro keen to avoid triggering a one-year extension clause in his contract.

Gerrard has already brought his former teammates, Jon Flanagan and Jermain Defoe, to Rangers this season.
Would Downing be a good addition for Rangers?
