Middlesbrough winger Marcus Browne was substituted at half time on Tuesday night.
Middlesbrough claimed their first win under new boss Jonathan Woodgate on Tuesday night, beating Wigan Athletic 1-0 at the Riverside Stadim.
Boro had claimed just one point from their first three games in a difficult start to the season, and needed to get their season kickstarted last night.
That’s exactly what happened, as striker Britt Assombalonga scored after 23 minutes, and that was enough to secure all three points for Boro.
It still wasn’t exactly vintage Boro, but at least they’re now up to 14th place in the Championship table, leaving the relegation zone in the process.
It was a mostly positive night due to the win, but some players didn’t really impress – and new signing Marcus Browne was one of them.
Boro paid just £200,000 to sign the winger after his impressive loan spell at Oxford United last season, and Football.London covered how Hammers fans were furious with such a cheap deal.
Browne had made three cameo appearances in the league before starting for the first time on Tuesday, but he was hooked at half time by Woodgate.
Fans have been taking to Twitter to criticise Browne, suggesting that he was a ‘walking red card’ having already been booked, feeling he was too eager to impress.
Others think he needs to get his head right as he was ‘poor’ against Wigan, and will need to tone down his feisty nature if he’s to make that £200,000 fee look like a bargain, and leave West Ham regretting their sale.
