The Benin striker was something of a shock signing from Aston Villa.
Middlesbrough defeated Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup yesterday and Aitor Karanka also handed a debut to Benin striker Rudy Gestede.
The winter signing from Aston Villa had not yet featured for the club and Boro fans were waiting to see if he could have an impact.
It was something of a surprise signing. Gestede was not exactly impressive at Aston Villa and was far from a fan favourite at Villa Park.
Middlesbrough’s Rudy Gestede
He is a rather statuesque frontman at times and it is hard to see him fitting in to Aitor Karanka’s plans.
He certainly looked out of place on debut.
He struggled to get into the game and at times looked cumbersome and clumsy up front for Boro.
Middlesbrough’s Rudy Gestede in action
In fairness to him, it was his first game for the club. It could simply be a case of first night nerves but it certainly did little to help the Boro fans change their opinion of the Benin attacker.
Hopefully he can continue to improve at Middlesbrough but after this performance the fans at Riverside are not yet impressed with their new signing…
