Are Middlesbrough winning the race for the sought-after Leeds United left-back?
Middlesbrough are the new favourites to sign Leeds United’s Charlie Taylor in January.
Bookmakers Bet Victor have slashed odds Boro’s odds of signing the sought-after left-back to 7/4, moving Aitor Karanka’s side ahead of previous favourites West Bromwich Albion, as well as Everton (both 6/1) and Newcastle United (8/1).
Leeds academy product Taylor is out of contract at Elland Road in June, and appears no closer to signing an extension with the Championship promotion chasers.
Middlesbrough were one of several sides linked with the 23-year-old in the summer, but while talk of interest from West Brom, Everton and Newcastle has since resurfaced, the Boro rumours seem to have cooled.
A move to the Riverside may appeal to Taylor, who hails from York and would not have to relocate.
However, the presence of George Friend and Fabio da Silva at Boro could limit the Leeds player’s game time.
According to the Guardian, Leeds may listen to offers of £6 million for Taylor, for whom they will be entitled to compensation if he leaves under freedom of contract next summer as he is under 24.
