Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has moved to praise centre back partner Cristian Romero after beating Liverpool 2-1.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven appear to have struck up a strong early partnership at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs were in action on Saturday evening, welcoming Liverpool to North London in what proved to be a controversial game.

Liverpool feel pretty much robbed having had Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota sent off and had a legitimate Luis Diaz goal incorrectly ruled out.

The game seemed to be petering out to a 1-1 draw but there was a late twist as Joel Matip turned Pedro Porro’s cross into his own net.

Tottenham fans won’t have cared about Liverpool’s woes, instead going absolutely wild as Spurs claimed a late, late victory.

The inquest continues over just how Liverpool saw that Diaz goal ruled out, but Tottenham players are busy celebrating.

Defender Cristian Romero took to Instagram to celebrate, praising the team spirit and ‘great heart’ in the Tottenham ranks.

There was a reply from defensive partner Micky van de Ven as he simply responded with ‘boss’ to describe the Argentinian.

When Romero is at his best, that certainly feels like an apt word; he can be dominant and a combative force from the heart of Tottenham’s back line.

Van de Ven only arrived from Wolfsburg over the summer but already appears to be loving life alongside Romero in the Spurs defence.

Cristian Romero stats v Liverpool

Romero was very impressive statistically against Liverpool.

The former Juventus man racked up five successful aerial deuls, three interceptions, three tackles won, one clearance and one key pass.

Romero and Van de Ven couldn’t secure a clean sheet here though with Cody Gakpo scoring for Liverpool in the first half.

It looks like Tottenham have a very promising partnership on their hands, with Romero and Van de Ven looking very impressive together in the opening weeks of the season.
