Tottenham Hotspur are making life difficult for themselves in their race for Champions League football.
Ange Postecoglou watched his side come from 1-0 down to record a narrow 2-1 win over Luton Town on Saturday.
An own goal and a late Son Heung-min strike sealed the points for his team, as they are now three points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa with a game in hand.
Spurs went into the break 1-0 down and fearing the worst that they were going to drop more points in the battle for fourth.
It probably wasn’t surprising that Postecoglou opted to sub off Dejan Kulusevski at the break, with Brennan Johnson coming onto the field.
The 22-year-old made a huge impact because he played a part in both Tottenham goals.
After the game, the versatile forward was lauded by Micky van de Ven, Pape Matar Sarr and Guglielmo Vicario on Instagram.
Their comments spoke volumes because it’s probably a hint to Postecoglou that he should now start the Welshman at West Ham United on Tuesday night.
Brennan Johnson praised
Sarr wrote in the comments section of Johnson’s IG post: ‘What a player’, whilst van de Ven added ‘Top’.
And Vicario called his teammate a ‘Game changer’.
Tottenham’s clash at West Ham United
Another huge game for Spurs coming up and one that could see them move into fourth spot with a win.
Villa are away at Man City on Wednesday, and even if Unai Emery’s side pull off a surprise, three points for the London club and they will be fourth.
You suspect Johnson will start because his recent form deserves it, as Kulusevski just seems off it.
But Spurs know they simply can’t fall behind again, or else, it will continue to stop them from playing Champions League football next season.
