Newcastle United confirmed that Rafa Benitez will leave the club once his contract expires at the end of the month.
Micky Quinn has stated that he wants Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe to replace Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United after the club confirmed he will leave the club when his contract expires in six days time.
Newcastle confirmed on their official Twitter account on Monday afternoon that Benitez will not extend his three-year stay at St James’ Park and he will depart once his contract expires on June 30.
The Magpies finished 13th in the Premier League under Benitez last season, with Howe guiding his free-flowing Cherries side to 14th place.
Speaking to Sky Sports News on 24/06/2019 at 4:10 pm, former striker Quinn made it clear that no-one will be able to lace Benitez’s boots, but if he had to pick, he would go for Howe as Newcastle’s next manager.
“Let me tell you, some of the runners and riders there, they couldn’t lace Benitez’s boots,” Quinn told Sky Sports News. “They have been sacked from a few jobs as well.
“I would personally like Eddie Howe if he were to move. I like the way his teams play football. Him out of the names that have been branded about. But how can you replace Benitez? That’s the worrying thing for me.
“The strength he had to pick his own team. The strength he had as Newcastle United. I just feel again it’s going to be a mess going into the new season.”
Given the fact that Newcastle have Mike Ashley as their owner, it would take a lot for him to make an ambitious move for a manager such as Howe.
Added with that, it remains to be seen whether Newcastle’s preferred choice, whoever that maybe, would want to take the job under the circumstances the club finds itself in,
Either way, following two relegations under Ashley’s ownership, the Englishman has once again allowed the club to shoot themselves in the foot and fans will now be worrying about their future.
