Newcastle United icon Micky Quinn has told owner Mike Ashley on Twitter to “splash the cash” in the January transfer window as the Toon look increasingly likely to enter next month with Ashley still in charge.

Ashley has been in talks with Amanda Staveley’s PCP Capital Partners for some time, with reports stating that she is willing to pay upto £300million for the ownership of the north east side.

However, no deal has been struck as of yet to the frustration of fans and manager Rafa Benitez, who desperately needs funds in January to strengthen his beleaguered squad after eight losses in their last nine games.

Ashley could not provide the funds required in the summer, but Quinn has urged him to do so this time around “or better still, sell the club as soon as possible”, as well as posting the infamous video of Ashley taking wads of cash out of his pocket.

The off-the-pitch talks have been affecting the Magpies on the field, as Benitez’s side slip into the Premier League relegation zone after a disappointing summer that left the Newcastle squad thin in a number of positions.

The Toon will be looking to end such a dismal run on Saturday as they travel to the London Stadium to face David Moyes’ rejuvenated West Ham United, who have won two of their last three games against Chelsea and Stoke.
