The former West Ham United boss is odds-on favourite for the West Bromwich Albion position.
Micky Quinn has questioned why West Ham United did not turn to reported West Bromwich Albion target Alan Pardew after sacking Slaven Bilic.
Pardew has quickly emerged as odds-on favourite for the West Brom position, which has been vacant since the sacking of Tony Pulis on Monday.
The Independent reports the 56-year-old will be interviewed by the Baggies, whose technical director Nick Hammond, he worked with at Reading.
But having been out of work for almost a year following his dismissal by Crystal Palace, Pardew’s appointment would come as something of a surprise to Quinn, the former Newcastle United striker turned Talksport pundit.
“I’m surprised West Brom are looking at him based on his last couple of jobs,” said Quinn on Thursday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “It’s sort of like they’ve put all their eggs in one basket. His last job, Crystal Palace, they started well but then their form tailed off and they weren’t winning many games, on a long losing run. And that’s how he ended his Newcastle United career. So (he’s a) very lucky man if he does get another Premier League job.”
Quinn went on to question why West Brom would be so keen on Pardew, when the manager’s former club, West Ham, seemingly failed to consider him last month.
He added: “The one thing he has done when he’s took over certain clubs is they’ve started well, they’ve picked up and they’ve turned it around early doors. But it hasn’t had a lasting effect at his last two clubs.
“Why didn’t West Ham approach him (before) David Moyes? He could have been a perfect fit for them, you know, ex-West Ham, knows what the club’s about.”
Pardew led West Ham to promotion from the Championship, ninth in the Premier League and an FA Cup final during his three-year tenure at Upton Park.
