Newcastle United have been linked with being at the centre of a takeover following their Premier League clash with Liverpool at the weekend.

Micky Quinn has told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast on 5th October 2017; 6:21 am) that he is hoping that the rumours linking Newcastle with a potential takeover prove to be correct, and Mike Ashley is soon out of the club.

There has been a huge amount of speculation in recent days that the Magpies could soon have new owners with financier Amanda Staveley pictured in the crowd during Newcastle’s Premier League clash with Liverpool at the weekend.

And former Newcastle forward Quinn has suggested that he would love to see the rumours prove to be true, especially as it will lead to the end of Ashley’s unpopular time as owner at St James’ Park.

“I hope he goes,” he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast on 5th October 2017; 6:21 am). “This lady, she tried to buy Spurs, tried to buy Liverpool. Newcastle I think is a fantastic club to buy.

“You’ve got a guaranteed 52,000 people there. It’s in the city-centre. There’s so many pluses to buying Newcastle United. They’re back in the Premier League.

“I hope this consortium goes through and Ashley just gets out.”

With Ashley failing to win the majority of the supporters over during his time in charge of the club, a potential takeover would surely give the supporters a significant boost at a time when things already appear to be going extremely well for Rafa Benitez’s men.

But with relations between the supporters and the current hierarchy strained, the new owners – should a takeover end up taking place – will surely face a certain amount of scepticism until they prove that they are determined to bring success on the pitch while managing the finances successfully off it.
