Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez masterminded his team to a valuable three points against relegation rivals Cardiff City at the weekend.
Micky Quinn has worryingly claimed that Rafa Benitez will ‘definitely’ leave Newcastle at the end of the season as the club are yet to sign a player this month.
The Mirror claimed that Benitez, whose contract at St James’ Park runs out in the summer, will not sit down to extend his contract until he can add new additions to his squad.
Former Magpies striker Quinn labelled Benitez as a ‘world class’ manager and stated that he doesn’t deserve to be in the situation he currently finds him in.
“Definitely, definitely no shadow of a doubt, [Benitez will walk]” Quinn told the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show on 23/01/2019 at 8:55 am.
“He [Rafa] has got ambition. He’s a world class manager is Rafa Benitez and he wants to pit his wits against Klopp, against Guardiola, against the big hitters of the Premier League. He deserves that.”
Despite the off-field issues, it has been a positive week for the club following their FA Cup win at Blackburn last Tuesday, which was backed up by three points at home to relegation rivals Cardiff.
As a result of that win against the Bluebirds, Benitez’s side are sitting one place and two points outside of the relegation zone after 23 league games.
Added with that, they will host fellow Premier League rivals Watford on home soil at the weekend, with the winner progressing through to the next round of the FA Cup.
Benitez joined Newcastle towards the back end of their 2015/16 relegation season and he stayed with the club in the Championship and brought them back up at the first time of asking.
Last season, they finished 10th under his stewardship as the northeast outfit will be looking to avoid a third relegation under Mike Ashley’s controversial tenure.
