The Magpies beat Wigan Athletic 2-0 on Wednesday night.
Former Newcastle United striker Micky Quinn voiced his delight on Twitter as his old side returned to the top of the Championship with a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic on Wednesday night.
Goals from Mohamed Diame and substitute Christian Atsu saw the Magpies to victory at the DW Stadium, a result which allows the Tyneside club to leapfrog Brighton & Hove Albion back into top spot.
The win makes it back-to-back victories and cleans sheets for Rafa Benitez’s side, the perfect way to respond to a difficult spell which saw them lose two consecutive Championship games and bow out of the EFL Cup.

Newcastle now sit a point clear of Brighton at the top of the Championship table, with goal difference also on their side.
Quinn was delighted to see his old club return to the summit, and insisted that the Tyneside team are back where they belong.
This time, Newcastle will be hoping to stay at the top, having previously squandered a commanding lead to slip behind Brighton.
They have a great opportunity to cement their place at the top this weekend, when they travel as huge favourites to face Burton Albion.
