Newcastle United won against Crystal Palace at St. James’ Park in the Premier League this afternoon.

Newcastle United returned to winning ways in the Premier League this afternoon, as they got the better of Crystal Palace 1-0 at home.
The Magpies headed into the match against Palace at St. James’ Park on the back of a 2-2 draw with Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the league.

Rafael Benitez’s side’s were expected to win against Palace and they did so, thanks to Mikel Merino’s goal in the 86th minute.
The win means that Newcastle are now sixth in the Premier League table with 14 points from nine matches, just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
Former Newcastle duo Micky Quinn and Steve Howey have taken to social networking site Twitter to give their reaction to the win for Benitez’s team.

Over the course of the 90 minutes at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon, hosts Newcastle had 55% of the possession, took seven shots of which three were on target, and earned three corners, according to BBC Sport.
