Newcastle headed into the match against Birmingham in poor form and on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest away from home at the City Ground.
The Magpies had lost their past three competitive matches, but against Birmingham they were superb.
Benitez’s side are at the top of the Championship table at the moment with 43 points from 20 matches, a point clear of second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.
Newcastle will return to action on Wednesday evening when they take on Wigan Athletic away from home at the DW Stadium in the Championship.
