Liverpool fan Quinn spent three seasons at Newcastle United.
Micky Quinn has joked that he is already trying to engineer a Newcastle United move for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.
Sturridge, who recently lost his England place, is reportedly ready to quit Anfield in January having also failed to tie down a regular spot in Jurgen Klopp’s team.
The 28-year-old has scored an impressive 64 goals in 131 games for Liverpool, although those have been spread over a five-year period.
He has however, been fit for all but two of the Reds’ fixtures this season, of which he has started just four.
And discussing potential destinations for Sturridge, Quinn, the Liverpool-supporting ex-Newcastle striker told Talksport on Monday: “I’m already in negotiations with Rafa [Benitez, the Newcastle manager] to bring him there.”
Quinn had previously suggested that Sturridge would be a useful signing for any side struggling at the bottom of the Premier League, and name-checked Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United.
But there is one move the Liverpudlian cannot envisage for the Reds’ number 15. “He fits the criteria of a missing 25-goals [Romelu] Lukaku, definitely,” added Quinn. “But I cannot for the life of me see Liverpool letting him go to Everton.”
And Quinn later championed a Newcastle move for Sturridge’s former international teammate, Jack Wilshere of Arsenal.
