Edin Dzeko has been linked with West Ham, but could he move to Spurs instead?

Micky Hazard has told Love Sport Radio that he believes Tottenham Hotspur should consider signing AS Roma striker Edin Dzeko, instead of West Ham United target man Andy Carroll this month.

A long-term ankle injury sustained by Harry Kane and Son Heung-min’s absence as he represents South Korea at the Asia Cup has seen reports suggest Spurs could finally enter the transfer market.

Spurs have been linked with a shock move to bring West Ham striker Carroll to Wembley, with The Sun claiming the north Londoners want to raid their local rivals with a £2million move for the England international.

But former Spurs star Hazard has looked to urge his old side that signing Carroll would be a waste. Instead, he wants to see Mauricio Pochettino raid Roma for two-time Premier League champion Dzeko.

“If I was manager of Spurs, I would be looking to him [Dzeko],” Hazard said. “I don’t think [Carroll] fits into our way of playing. He might do us a job when we’ve got no-one because of this incredible injury list – and Son away which compounds it.

“I am a bit of a purist and I have a style of play that I like to see, and I think Dzeko would fit into that better than Andy Carroll.”

Former Newcastle and Liverpool striker Carroll remains injury plagued and his contract with West Ham expires at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Dzeko has been in decent form for Roma – scoring seven and creating four in 20 games.

West Ham themselves have been linked with former Manchester City ace Dzeko, with La Reppublica claiming both Spurs and the Hammers are interested in signing the 32-year-old Bosnia international.

Hazard believes Dzeko would be a better fit for Spurs, over Carroll, but whether Spurs will enter the transfer window at all remains to be seen.
