Leeds United have lost to the likes of Wigan, Brentford and Ipswich Town in recent weeks.
Micky Gray has joked that Leeds United will be praying that their playoff opponents keep 11 men on the field of play after losing to yet another team with ten men over the weekend.
Over the Easter period, then relegation-threatened Wigan were down to ten men and were 1-0 down, but they still managed to record all three points at Elland Road.
On Sunday, they were beaten 3-2 by already-relegated Ipswich, who also had a man sent off in the second half as Kemar Roofe missed his spot-kick in a horrible fashion.
Speaking to Sunday Exclusive on TalkSport (05/05/2019 at 2:45 pm), former Leeds man Gray spoke about the current situation Leeds find themselves in.
“[Losing to] Ipswich with ten men, let’s not forget that,” Gray told TalkSport. “Wigan against ten men. They will be praying for whoever they are playing against keep 11 on the field because that’s not great form going into the playoffs.
“I think throughout of the whole of this season up until the last three or four games, we have all been talking about Leeds United. Maybe a little bit too much. We’ve had the Bielsa scenario. We’ve had people like Roofe, who was on fire at the start of the season, he’s missed a big batch of the season through injury.
“I don’t know if it’s fatigue. Everything that has been asked of them this season in the way they approach games, the energy levels etc.. So, how do you turn to players and say I need an extra 15% from you? It might just be that they have nothing left.”
Prior to their game against Ipswich, Leeds recorded a 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa and the performance from the players is exactly what the supporters were looking for.
Bielsa’s side had just missed out on the top to and needed a reaction. But going into their final game of the season, many expected them to win, but instead, they have suffered a damaging defeat heading into their playoff semi-final against Derby.
Whilst form does go out of the window, the Yorkshire club will go into these playoffs without any momentum and their forward line not in the greatest run of form.
