Leeds United are sitting top of the Championship table at Christmas.
Micky Gray has confessed that he thought Leeds United ‘would stumble’ under Marcelo Bielsa following their positive start to the season.
The Yorkshire club are sitting top of the Championship table over Christmas following their stunning 3-2 victory at Dean Smith’s Aston Villa over the weekend.
Bielsa’s side came from two goals down to score three second-half goals against their promotion rivals in their own backyard.
Former Leeds man Gray admitted that he thought his former side would ‘slow down’ as the season wore on, but he now rates them as the best team in the second tier of English football.
“If we are talking about the best team that I have seen on a consistent basis throughout the Championship this season, it’s Bielsa and Leeds United,” Gray told Drivetime on talkSPORT on 24/12/2018 at 5:30 pm. “They’ve been excellent. I thought they’d stumble and slow down.
“Kemar Roofe was missing for a little bit and they didn’t win too many games. I think he’s so key for them.”
Forward Kemar Roofe has been a key component up front for Bielsa this season despite missing a few matches between September and October because of an injury.
Over the course of the campaign, the 25-year-old has scored 11 goals from his 17 league matches, including a stunning stoppage-time winner at Villa last time out.
Roofe has scored seven goals from his last 10 matches and he will be looking to extend that run over a crucial festive period.
Leeds, who hold a six-point lead over third-placed West Brom in the Championship table, host Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day before rounding off the year with another home clash against Hull City.
