The goals have been flying in from Aston Villa’s Tammy Abraham in the Championship this season.

talkSPORT pundit Micky Gray has claimed that Aston Villa star man Tammy Abraham isn’t good enough to play in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old, who is on loan at Villa from Chelsea, has enjoyed a stellar start to the season, from an individual perspective.

Abraham has scored 13 goals from his 17 league matches in the Championship as his Villa side struggle in 11th place, five points outside of the play-off places and further 15 points behind the leaders Leeds United.

Despite his goalscoring form in the second tier of English football, former Sunderland player Gray believes Abraham wouldn’t be able to deliver the goods at Stamford Bridge.

“If I am brutally honest with you, I don’t think he’s good enough [for the Premier League],” Gray told Drivetime on talkSPORT on 24/12/2018 at 5:35 pm. “He is [still young], but if you’re looking at Tammy Abraham or Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Who is the best player? Personally, I think Loftus-Cheek is a better centre-forward.

“If Chelsea want to finish in the top four, I don’t think you can rely on a player like him, right now. Who knows what will happen in three or four years time, but at this moment, he’s at the perfect place for him to evolve himself.”

This is Abraham’s second stint in the Championship after he scored 26 goals for Lee Johnson’s Bristol City two seasons ago.

During the previous campaign, the London-born player spent a season on loan at Swansea in the Premier League, where he struggled to make a name for himself – he scored five goals in 31 league appearances as the Welsh outfit were relegated from England’s top-flight.

After making a brief 20-minute appearance in the Charity Shield for Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea at the start of August, Abraham opted to move down a division at the end of the month and join Villa.
