Gray has regularly commented on Sunderland’s progress, and is known to still have a strong affinity towards his boyhood club.
Sunderland are currently having a rough time, after being starved of success in recent seasons.
The Black Cats were relegated from the Premier League last term, and they have struggled to adapt to playing Championship football.
