Mick Quinn says that Jurgen Klopp must build his team around Philippe Coutinho next season.
Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho
Former Newcastle United player and now football pundit, Mick Quinn has showered heaps of praise on Liverpool’s exciting Brazilian forward, Philippe Coutinho.
The 24-year-old Brazilian has enjoyed a good 2016/17 campaign for the Reds, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in the Premier League.
The Liverpool forward has been frequently linked with a move to Barcelona, with Spanish newspaper Sport running a story this week that informal talks have taken place over a £76m transfer.
Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho looks dejected
Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has said the club does not have to sell any player against his wishes. Furthermore, Coutinho’s new contract, which he signed earlier this year and one that does not contain a buyout clause, gives the club control over the player’s future.
Quinn in a show with TalkSport said that the Brazilian is “instrumental” in Klopp’s plans going forward next season, although Liverpool would need to secure Champions League football to keep him happy.
He adds that he loves watching Coutinho as as he is one of those players who can make a difference. Quinn believes Coutinho has improved on his all-round game, and that Klopp should build his team around him next season.
“He would be instrumental in Jurgen Klopp’s plans, especially if they get Champions League football. If they don’t, I would be worried,” said Quinn in a show (Sport Breakfast) with TalkSport.
“He is a player that you want to build your team around. I think he has improved this year. He is getting goals now which he didn’t get early on in his career.
“You have seen his free-kicks, ability to bend the ball…proper Brazilian football, which I just love watching.
“His imagination on the football field, bring other players into play, he can see things other players can’t. He is a player Jurgen Klopp must build his team around.”
