The Everton boss complimented Liverpool in the media recently.

Mick Quinn has told talkSPORT that Everton boss Ronald Koeman should not have been as complimentary toward Liverpool as he was recently.

Liverpool are top of the Premier League at the moment and have been playing some scintillating stuff recently, scoring 12 times in their last three league outings.

The Dutchman admitted to The Mail that he was “impressed” by Everton’s Merseyside rivals after being asked who he felt could win the title this season.

This is Koeman’s first season as Toffees manager after leaving Southampton to replace Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park in the summer.

And former Liverpool striker Quinn has claimed that it is simply “unheard of” for a Blues boss to champion their neighbours for winning the title.

Quinn told talkSPORT: “He’s tipped up Liverpool to win [the Premier League]. I don’t know what he’s up to. It’s unheard of, an Everton manager tipping up their closest rivals to win the league. Unheard of. You don’t tip your closest rivals in the same city to win the title.”

Koeman’s side host the high-flying Reds at Goodison on December 19 in what will be his first taste of the Merseyside derby.

By that stage, Liverpool might well be in the same position as they are now, with Jurgen Klopp’s side facing Bournemouth, West Ham and Sunderland in three of their next four games.

On this form, that is nine points for the Premier League leaders.
