Newcastle United will head to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Saturday.

Former Mag and Talksport presenter Mick Quinn looks on before the Barclays Premier League match between Aston Villa and Newcastle United at Villa Park on May 7, 2016 in Birmingham, United...

Mick Quinn explained why he believes that Newcastle can take a positive result away from their clash with Liverpool on Saturday, when writing his regular column for the Chronicle.

The Reds have been quite simply sensational this season, especially in the final third, and a trip to Anfield will surely be one that the Magpies approach with trepidation, rather than confidence.

Rafael Benitez Manager

Rafa Benitez’s side have had their problems this season, and currently sit in 15th position in the Premier League table, just two points clear of the drop zone.

The Tyneside outfit will have to be at their very best at the weekend, if they are to avoid defeat against Jürgen Klopp’s men.

Quinn, a boyhood Liverpool fan who went on to play for Newcastle, explained why he believes the Toon can leave Merseyside with something to show for their efforts, when writing his regular column for the Chronicle:

“If Newcastle can show the defensive discipline and organisation they did for 75 minutes against Bournemouth – and put that horrible end to the game behind them – then I think they are capable of nicking a result at Anfield. The Magpies look good when counter-attacking away from home and, now that looks like he has rediscovered his confidence in front of goal, Rafa will know his side can leave Anfield with at least a point.”

Despite the size of the task ahead for the Magpies, they will always have a chance with a man like Rafa at the helm, and Liverpool fans will know all about the Spaniard’s capabilities, after his successful six-year spell at Anfield.

It would still take a brave man to bet against Liverpool chalking up another three points at the weekend, though, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino currently firing on all cylinders.
