Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is said to have walked away from negotiations with Amanda Staveley.

Mick Quinn has berated the news that Newcastle United’s proposed takeover might have collapsed.
It was widely reported that owner Mike Ashley had walked away from negotiations with Amanda Staveley, whose compay PCP Capital had lodged a £250 million offer in November.
There has been a major impasse in negotiations since then and Ashley is now reported to have called time on the deal in a move which will horrify Newcastle fans, if true.

Fans of the St James’s Park had been excited about the prospect of seeing the Sports Direct owner leave the club after a tumultous 10-and-a-half-year reign at the top.
But Sky Sports journalist Jim White tweeted that Staveley’s initial offer of £250 million remains on the table, leaving the ball in Ashley’s court.
Former Newcastle striker Quinn remains a big fan of his old club, and he seems disappointed by the latest twist in this saga.

Fans suffer in a big way if Ashley remains at the helm, but so too does Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez.
The Spanish manager is in the middle of what looks set to be another horrendous transfer window as Ashley denies him appropriate funds to reinforce the squad – and additions are vital.
United are only three points above the relegation zone and without signings, it’s very possible that another stint in the Championship looms.
